Services: Development Assessment, Fundraising Management
As an organization without an established fundraising program, Delaware Curative engaged Bloom Metz Consulting to conduct a Development Assessment (DA) to identify potential fundraising opportunities, evaluate internal and external issues to address, and help craft a program that prioritized the possibilities while maximizing their potential for success. In addition to the value of the findings and recommendations, a Development Assessment is an example of an experience in which there is tremendous value in the process itself. It is an effective way to engage potential supporters and foster buy-in for today as well as the future. This reflects a fundamental premise of fundraising: “if you ask for money, it leads to advice, but if you ask for advice, it leads to money.”
Bloom Metz Consulting started by conducting an internal analysis studying the mission of Delaware Curative, its fundraising history, and the overall culture of the organization. Stakeholders of Delaware Curative and the community were interviewed in order to assess their opinions about Delaware Curative and specifically their insights about fundraising. These stakeholders were identified with input from Delaware Curative as well as our knowledge of prospective supporters.
Through these interactions, Bloom Metz Consulting listened for new opportunities for Delaware Curative based on their experience with other organizations as well as their own creative thoughts. This input, coupled with our analysis and experience, resulted in a final report with a series of recommended next steps to strengthen Delaware Curative’s fundraising activities.
Summary of Outcomes:
- Delaware Curative determined the reasonable goals for a development effort to achieve in the immediate future and over the next five years.
- Delaware Curative developed a compelling “Case for Support” articulating its needs.
- Delaware Curative identified the structure for board members, volunteers, and professional staff to participate in fundraising efforts.
- Delaware Curative discovered the procedures to be established in order to support a permanent development effort.
Upon completion of this Development Assessment, Delaware Curative engaged Bloom Metz Consulting to provide ongoing fundraising management services during which time new fundraising initiatives were implemented and significant increased financial support was demonstrated.
